William Shakespeare is a world renowned name, known for being one of the greatest play writes of our time.Shakespeare was born in 1564 in Stratford upon Avon, the exact date of his birth is not known but his baptism took place on 26th April 1564.
Shakespeare's parents John and Mary Shakespeare were quite well off, John was a craftsmen who worked with gloves and wool and when Shakespeare turned 4 was elected the mayor of Stratford. As a result of this John was able to afford a large family house for his family.
Shakespeare started a grammer school at the age of seven, where he studied Latin and memorised and performed stories from history, a practice that would be useful for an actor and writer. He left school at the age of around fifteen. Shakespeare married at the age of 18 in 1582 to Anne Hathaway a local farmers daughter. The couple had their first child Susanna six months after their marriage so offers some indication of why he married so young. The couple went on to have two more children, twins Hamnet and Judith in 1585 and later moved to a large house in Stratford.
From 1590 to 1613 Shakespeare lived in London and by 1592 was a successful actor and playwright there. Shakespeare went on to write 40 plays and a book of 154 sonnets.
In 1599 Shakespeare became part owner of the Globe Theatre, for around 20 years he made money from acting, writing and running a very successful theatre company. In January 1616 Shakespeare made a will and died on the 23rd April. He is buried in a church in Stratford Upon Avon.
Shakespeare lead a very fortunate early life, surviving the deadly plague that claimed so many lives during the Elizabethan period and being born into a well off family. He was given the opportunity of education and the money to fund his projects. Shakespeare was given a good start in life that ultimately lead to his success in is later years and becoming a practiced and respected playwright throughout the world.
